Each episode highlights conversations with lived and living individuals, families and carers, experts in the field of Eating Disorder support, care and treatment initiatives, and highlights current research initiates, such as the worlds largest Genetic Study, “The Eating Disorders Genetics Initiative (EDGI).” There is hope. In this episode Millie chats to Dr Erin Parks. Erin is a clinical psychologist, researcher, and co-founder of Equip, a virtual eating disorder program that delivers evidence-based treatment for lasting recovery. Erin has over 15 years experience with adolescents and adults in inpatient, partial hospitalisation and intensive outpatient settings, where she has experienced first-hand the disparity in who gets diagnosed and who has access to quality treatment, which is why she co-founded Equip: to disseminate the treatment that works (not just feels good) to everyone with an eating disorder.
They discuss her own eating disorder journey, her invaluable work at the The UC San Diego Eating Disorder Centre, the value of eating disorder research, the importance of treatment that works (not just feels good) and why Equip is such a game changer for eating disorder treatment.

In this episode Millie chats to Nadia. Nadia battled an eating disorder after graduating from university. Alongside her job in arts administration, she now also acts as a lived experience speaker and peer mentor through Eating Disorders Queensland and is passionate about sharing her story to help others feel less alone. They discuss her eating disorder journey, the impact that being Jewish had on the development of her eating disorder and the role that intuitive movement, journaling and art played in her recovery.

In this episode Millie chats to Shane Jeffrey. Shane is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Accredited Sports Dietitian with 25 years of experience as a dietitian in both the private and public sectors, working almost exclusively in the field of eating disorders. Shane is the current treasurer of the Australian & New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders, and the director and founder of River Oak Health and Food Mind Body, two Queensland based practices dedicated to the treatment of eating, weight and body image concerns.
Shane developed the RAVES eating model, and evidence informed framework for supporting a recovery focused relationship with food and nutrition. They discuss why the RAVES eating model is so effective, the role of meal plans in recovery, navigating veganism in recovery, the value of lived experience recovery coaches and the importance of including parents and carers in dietetic consultations.

In this episode Millie chats to Kristie Amadio. Kristie is the founder of Recovered Living NZ; New Zealand’s first charitable residential eating disorder treatment centre. With a 14 year history of an eating disorder, Kristie sought treatment in three different countries before finding recovery in residential treatment in California. This experience led her to opening a charitable residential treatment centre so that others could get the help they deserved, without having to fly to the other side of the world.
Kristie is a qualified counsellor in Australia and New Zealand and a certified Eating Disorder Recovery Coach. She has a rich history of being an elite athlete, an outdoor instructor and has helped individuals all over the world in their recovery journeys. They discuss her own eating disorder recovery journey, Body Dysmorphia, the importance of taking a holistic approach to eating disorder treatment and the development of Recovered Living NZ.

In this episode Millie chats to Shannon Calvert. Shannon is a lived experience leader after having a severe and enduring eating disorder for most of her life. Her personal experience inspired her advocacy to support the respect, rights, and appropriate treatment for those affected by eating disorders, mental ill-health and end of life care.
As an educator and consumer advisor, Shannon collaborates with clinicians and researchers in an advisory capacity, providing consultation and engagement toward systemic improvement in the eating disorders and mental health sector. She was recently appointed as the Lived Experience Co-Production Co-Lead at the Australian Eating Disorders Research and Translation Centre.
They discuss her severe and enduring battle with Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge Eating Disorder, the importance of compassion in eating disorder care, grieving the loss of an eating disorder and the power of holding hope for people.

In this episode Millie chats to Hope Virgo. Hope is the Author of Stand Tall Little Girl and a multi award winning international leading advocate for people with eating disorders. Hope helps young people and employers (including schools, hospitals and businesses) to deal with the rising tide of mental health issues.
Hope is the founder of the #DumpTheScales campaign which put eating disorders on the UK Government's agenda. The campaign has gone from strength to strength making change happen on a national scale. They discuss her own eating disorder journey, how to hold onto hope when things feel hopeless, navigating pregnancy in eating disorder recovery, the impact of her #DumpTheScales campaign and the dangers of diet culture.

In this episode Millie chats to Annie Flamsteed. Annie is the founder and CEO of Inspiretek a Brisbane based tech company that is passionate about individual’s wellness. Through her own experience as an athlete she launched the Inspire sport mobile app in February 2019 and in 2020 she launched the Growth Studio for administrators and coaches.
Annie is an advocate for holistic wellbeing, putting people above all else - you can’t have a healthy body without a healthy mind. By implementing these core beliefs Inspire is driving positive human behaviour change – creating the game changers of tomorrow. They discuss her eating disorder journey, the impact that being an elite athlete has on body image and eating habits, how her lived experience inspired her to start Inspiretek and the power of prevention through prediction.

In this episode Millie chats to Melainie Rogers. Melainie is the Founder and CEO of BALANCE eating disorder treatment center and melainie rogers nutrition located in New York City. She is a Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian and Supervisor (CEDRD) and is accredited by the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals as a clinical supervisor in the treatment of eating disorders.
Melainie is the co-founder and past president of the New York City Chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP), an Advisory Board Member at the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia and the Co-Chair of the Nutrition Special Interest Group (SIG) with the Academy of Eating Disorders. She is an active member of several dietetic associations including the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and The Greater New York Dietetic Association.
She is also the author of Redefining Wellness: The Ultimate Diet-Free Guide and she is a professor in the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies at New York University. They discuss her own eating disorder recovery journey, the importance of recognising that eating disorders can morph/change, the concepts of Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size and the power of lived experience. In this episode Millie chats to Dr James Greenblatt. A pioneer in the field of functional and integrative medicine, board-certified child and adult psychiatrist Dr Greenblatt has treated patients since 1988. He currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer at Walden Behavioral Care in Waltham, Massachusetts. Dr. Greenblatt has lectured internationally on the scientific evidence for nutritional interventions in psychiatry and mental illness and he is also the author of seven books.
Dr. Greenblatt was inducted into the Orthomolecular Hall of Fame in 2017 by the International Society of Orthomolecular Medicine. He is also the founder of Psychiatry Redefined, an educational platform dedicated to the transformation of psychiatry, which offers online courses, webinars and fellowships for professionals.
They discuss how nutritional deficiencies affect brain function, the importance of early intervention, rethinking anorexia as a “metabo-psychiatric” disorder, the flaws in using BMI as a measure of health, Malorexia and the importance of nourishing the brain and nurturing the mind.
